About the choirs:

The Sherwood Community Chamber Choir is directed by William Evans, who founded the choir in 2014. Evans taught choral music at Sherwood High School for 37 years before retiring in 2016. Evans is supported by Nancy Nyland, Assistant Director of SCCC. SCCC is an auditioned volunteer chorus whose goal is to enrich the community and its members through choral singing and concerts. The choir consists of over 50 adult singers.

Founded in 2022, the Sherwood Community Chamber Ensemble consists of 12 members of the Community Choir and focuses on a small ensemble choral music repertoire.

Launched in fall 2022, the Olney Community Youth Choir (formerly named Sherwood Community Youth Choir) is led by Artistic Director Ashley Grantham and Director Sidney Clarke-Lequerique. Grantham is supported by Michele Rohan, Assistant Director/Collaborative Accompanist, and Zoe Bullit, Choral Manager. OCYC was created to help fill the need for singing opportunities for children in the Olney community, and the choir will expand this fall to serve 4th through 8th grade students inspired to be the next generation of singers.

The Sherwood High School Chamber Singers are led by director Emily Chu. This auditioned choir meets in class daily on a repertoire of chamber and global musical pieces. Emily Chu began as the choral and general music teacher at Sherwood High School in fall 2023. She graduated from the University of Maryland with a dual degree in Music Education and Vocal Performance. Following graduation, she was the general music teacher at Burtonsville Elementary School. She also directs and conducts two choirs at Glorystar Children’s Chorus in Potomac, MD.
